Gonda: The monthly meeting of the Gonda City Congress Committee was held on Monday at Congress Bhawan under the chairmanship of city president Shahid Ali Qureshi, where party workers held a detailed discussion on the burning civic issues plaguing the city.
The core issue on the agenda of the meeting was problem of waterlogging. With monsoons season in full swing, residents panning across various localities were left struggling as heavy rainfall flooded streets. There was deep anger among members over the municipal body’s failure to clean drains and set right the drainage system.
Reacting to the issue, city president Shahid Ali Qureshi issued a stern warning to the administration, saying that if the Gonda Municipal Council fails to resolve the waterlogging problem within 15 days, the Congress party will join hands with the public to lay siege to the municipal office.
The meeting also took up the issue of rising electricity bills and dilapidated wiring across the city. Workers voiced concern over what they called arbitrary charges being levied in the name of smart meters, as well as the growing number of accidents caused by worn-out power lines, and demanded that the civic body fix the problem on a war footing.
Anger was also directed at the administration over delays in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PM Housing Scheme), with several eligible beneficiaries still waiting for houses. Party workers demanded that the administration release the pending list at the earliest and ensure eligible families are provided housing without further delay.
The gathering also stressed the need to strengthen the Congress organisation at the booth level in order to widen public outreach and give a stronger voice to people’s grievances.
On the occasion, the meeting welcomed and felicitated Dr. Syed Abdul Mujeeb, who was recently appointed District Convener of the Jan Vyatha Nirakaran Samiti (Public Grievance Redressal Committee) by the state leadership. Separately, Rajesh Kumar and Mohammad Saleem Ansari of Patel Nagar locality joined the Congress party, saying they were inspired by the party’s policies.
Party workers present at the meeting pledged to unite and fight for issues affecting the common public.

Tayyab; Sajjo Khatoon; Aftab Ansari; Kawaljeet; Siraj; Bansi Sonkar; Riyaz; and Raju of Seva Dal, along with a large number of office-bearers and workers.
