Lucknow: A technical session aimed at strengthening mango cultivation through modern agricultural practices was held on the second day of the three-day Uttar Pradesh Mango Festival 2026 at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan on Saturday.
Organised under the initiative of the Uttar Pradesh government, the session brought together senior officials from the Horticulture Department, agricultural scientists, export experts and progressive mango growers from across the state. The discussions centered on enhancing productivity, improving fruit quality and increasing farmers’ incomes through innovation, value addition and better market access.
The primary focus of the session was to integrate advanced technologies into mango cultivation and explore strategies for expanding opportunities in marketing, processing and exports. Experts highlighted the growing demand for high-quality mangoes in international markets and explained how scientific packaging, branding and adherence to export standards can help farmers secure better prices for their produce.
Participants were provided detailed guidance on post-harvest management, value addition, food processing, export requirements, natural farming techniques and emerging startup opportunities in the horticulture sector. Specialists also shared best practices for safe harvesting, grading, storage and handling of mangoes to ensure that the state’s renowned varieties meet global quality benchmarks.

Officials from the Horticulture Department emphasized that the government is working to transform the horticulture sector by providing farmers with quality planting material, scientific advisory services and improved marketing infrastructure. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing productivity while connecting growers directly with domestic and international markets.
The session also featured contributions from representatives of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, the ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and experts from the food processing industry. They shared insights on export readiness, supply chain development and value-added opportunities that can help mango growers increase profitability.
The technical deliberations underscored the Uttar Pradesh government’s commitment to leveraging technology, innovation and global market linkages to strengthen the horticulture sector and move closer to its goal of significantly enhancing farmers’ incomes.
