National Printmaking Camp Begins in Lucknow Under Third Print Biennale India

Lucknow: A National Printmaking Camp is being organized in Lucknow as part of the Third Print Biennale India, jointly organised by Lalit Kala Akademi, Regional Centre, Aliganj, and State Lalit Kala Akademi Uttar Pradesh. The six-day camp, running from March 25 to 30, 2026, is being held at the Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre in Aliganj.

The programme was inaugurated by renowned artist Shyam Sharma, along with Sanjeev Kishore Gautam of the National Gallery of Modern Art and Dr. Sunil Kumar Vishwakarma, Chairman of the State Lalit Kala Akademi, in the presence of Regional Secretary Devendra Tripathi and programme coordinator Kiran Singh Rathore.

The camp’s key highlight is its focus on etching, a traditional printmaking technique where artists create intricate designs on metal plates using acid and engraving methods before transferring them onto paper. Artists from across the country are participating, showcasing their creativity and technical mastery in this specialised medium.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sunil Kumar Vishwakarma said that the presence of Padma Shri Shyam Sharma has inspired artists and will significantly contribute to the growth and learning of graphic art practitioners. Sanjeev Kishore Gautam highlighted that the camp reflects the collective efforts of national and state art institutions in bringing eminent artists together in Lucknow.

Renowned artist Dilip Tamoli emphasised the historical importance of printmaking, noting its relevance in mediums such as vintage posters and newspapers, and appreciated the organisers for promoting the art form.

Padma Shri Shyam Sharma expressed happiness at being part of the camp, stating that the gathering of eminent graphic artists would leave a lasting creative impression by the conclusion of the event on March 30.

Prominent participating artists include Dr. Mahesh Singh (Varanasi), Ranjan Vishwakarma (Prayagraj), Dilip Tamoli (Assam), Tribhuvan Kumar (Mau), Anant Kumar Sahu (Chhattisgarh), Deepak Yadav (Haryana), and Praveen Chandra Sharma (Shimla), among others.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Regional Secretary Devendra Tripathi, while Amit Agnihotri, Director of the State Lalit Kala Akademi, extended a vote of thanks.

The camp is expected to provide a vibrant platform for artistic exchange, innovation, and the promotion of traditional printmaking practices in contemporary art.
