Lucknow: Akhilesh Yadav, National President of the Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday expressed concern over reported US–Israel attacks reaching close to India’s strategic region up to the Indian Ocean, calling it a serious matter for the country’s security.
In a statement, Yadav said the developments near India’s borders are a matter of concern for citizens and questioned what he described as the “unprecedented silence” of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government. He asked whether the silence should be interpreted as a deliberate stance or as hesitation due to fear, adding that the government must clarify its position.
He stated that since the issue has international implications, it is the joint responsibility of the Government of India, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Defence to clearly present the country’s stand. However, he said that despite several days passing, the government has not issued a clear response, compelling the opposition to raise the matter.
Yadav urged the Centre to step forward in this critical situation and ensure the protection of the country’s land, sea and air borders. He alleged that the government’s silence has created anxiety among citizens about how it intends to respond to the situation.

The former chief minister also accused the BJP government of attempting to divert public attention from its failures through unclear policies and political controversies. He claimed that the ruling party may raise contentious issues in the upcoming parliamentary session to avoid discussion on what he termed governance failures.
Yadav concluded by saying that the country currently appears to be facing a period of “governance vacuum,” and called on the government to address the issue with clarity and responsibility.
