Maha Kumbh 2025 gets smarter edge

Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government has announced comprehensive measures to ensure Maha Kumbh 2025 becomes a model of cleanliness, security, and convenience. Preparations are underway to manage the influx of over 40 crore devotees expected to visit Prayagraj during the 45-day event. The government aims to blend ancient Sanatan traditions with modern technology, focusing on environmental sustainability and state-of-the-art facilities.

Unprecedented Sanitation Measures

A massive cleanliness drive has been initiated, including the installation of 1.5 lakh toilets and urinals throughout the fairgrounds and parking areas. The biggest challenge lies in maintaining the cleanliness of these facilities, for which innovative solutions have been adopted.

QR-Based Monitoring System

A QR code-based monitoring system will oversee toilet cleanliness. Specially trained personnel, termed Ganga Sevadoots, will inspect each toilet twice daily using an ICT app to ensure adherence to hygiene standards. Feedback will be collected and sent to a centralized control room, enabling swift action by vendors to address cleanliness issues.

Additionally, the general public can provide real-time feedback through a dedicated app, ensuring participatory cleanliness monitoring.

Automated Cleaning Systems

To eliminate the need for manual labor, jet spray cleaning systems will be employed. These systems use high-pressure water to clean toilets efficiently and hygienically, similar to railway cleaning techniques. A cesspool operation plan has also been established to manage septic tanks, transporting waste to designated sewage treatment plants (STPs).

Fire Safety: Zero-Incident Goal

Given the massive congregation, fire safety is a priority for Maha Kumbh 2025. The government has doubled its resources compared to 2019, with 351 fire vehicles, 5,000 fire extinguishers, and 50 temporary fire stations planned. AI-enabled smart cameras will monitor and instantly report incidents to ensure rapid response.

Enhanced Training and Equipment

Fire personnel have undergone specialized training, supported by collaborations with national institutions like the National Fire Service College Nagpur. The aim is to achieve a “Zero Fire Incident” Maha Kumbh, surpassing the previous records of 55 incidents in 2019 and 612 incidents in 2013.

Green Maha Kumbh: Environmental Commitment

The government’s “Green Kumbh” initiative focuses on making the event polythene-free and environmentally friendly. The Forest Department and local authorities are spearheading a mega plantation drive, aiming to plant 2.71 lakh saplings across the city and fairgrounds. Green belts are being developed along major roads, enhancing the aesthetic and ecological value of the region.

AI-Powered Assistance for Devotees

For the first time, an AI generative chatbot, “Kumbh Sahayak,” will assist devotees. This multilingual chatbot, integrated with Google navigation, will provide real-time guidance on routes, bathing ghats, accommodations, and event schedules. Accessible via the Mahakumbh 2025 app and WhatsApp, it aims to enhance the pilgrim experience while bridging cultural and technological gaps.

Innovative Tourism Facilities

The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is introducing mini cruises and speed boats to facilitate convenient access to Sangam for ritual bathing. This initiative, launched under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision, promises to enrich the spiritual and experiential aspects of Maha Kumbh.

Mounted Police for Crowd Control

To ensure effective crowd management, 180 mounted police personnel will patrol the fairgrounds. Their elevated vantage point and mobility make them ideal for overseeing large gatherings. The horses, named with majestic titles like “Maharaja” and “Bahubali,” symbolize the grandeur and security of the event.

High-tech security measures include deploying water police equipped with 25 jet skis capable of reaching speeds of 70 km/h for swift rescue operations. Mounted police will also patrol the fair, offering effective crowd control with 180 trained personnel and named horses. Comprehensive preparations extend to healthcare with a ₹9 crore Netra Kumbh for vision correction, cataract surgeries, and glasses distribution.

A Model Event for the World

By integrating innovative solutions and rigorous planning, the Yogi government is determined to make Maha Kumbh 2025 not only a spiritual and cultural spectacle but also an example of environmental stewardship and technological advancement.
