Lucknow: In a swift action following a viral video on social media, the accused involved in the misbehavior of a woman was arrested by the police. The incident occurred on September 29, 2024, when the accused followed and harassed the complainant, a woman riding her scooty, while she was returning home from work. The motorcycle used in the crime, a Passion Pro (No. UP32GD4080), has been recovered by the police.
Details of the Incident
According to the FIR (No. 276/2024) filed at Bijnor Police Station, the complainant reported that on the night of September 29 at around 10:15 p.m., while traveling from Gomti Nagar to Kanpur Road in Lucknow on her scooty, an unknown man riding the Passion Pro motorcycle began following her on Shaheed Path near Lulu Mall. The man, later identified as Furqan, tried to touch her waist while she was on her moving scooty near Pushpendra Nagar.
The incident was recorded by other commuters who witnessed the situation, and the video quickly gained attention on social media. Based on the video and information provided by the victim, the police registered the FIR against the unknown rider of motorcycle number UP32GD4080.
Investigation and Arrest
The investigation revealed that the registered owner of the motorcycle, Amrish Verma, had given it to a mechanic, Ravi, for repairs at a shop in Sabzi Mandi Chowki, Vikas Nagar. Mechanic Ravi, in turn, lent the motorcycle to his friend Furqan, with the intention of selling it to him if he found it suitable.
Furqan, who works as a lead installer in various shops, had been at Lulu Mall on the day of the incident. While returning from work, he followed and harassed the complainant before fleeing the scene.
On October 2, 2024, Furqan was arrested by a police team from Sitapur district while he was attempting to travel to Lakhimpur. The crime and surveillance teams were instrumental in tracking and apprehending him. At the time of his arrest, Furqan was wearing the same clothes as during the incident, and the Passion Pro motorcycle used in the crime was recovered from his possession.
Legal Action
Further legal proceedings against Furqan are underway. The police have taken strict action to ensure justice for the victim and maintain public safety during the ongoing investigation.
