₹330-Crore Flood Protection Projects Approved for Lucknow’s Faizullaganj

5.5-km embankment and 12 automatic flood pumping stations planned to tackle recurring floods and waterlogging

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved projects worth ₹330 crore to address recurring floods and waterlogging in Faizullaganj and adjoining areas of Lucknow. The plans include the construction of a 5.5-kilometre-long embankment along the Gomti river and the installation of 12 automatic flood pumping stations.

An amount of ₹182 crore has been sanctioned for the construction and strengthening of the embankment from IIM Road to Pakka Pul, also known as Harding Bridge. The structure is planned to be strengthened and raised, with a service road proposed along its stretch.

Another ₹148 crore will be spent on 12 automatic flood pumping stations to improve drainage. These facilities are expected to help manage waterlogging during heavy rainfall and when the Gomti river’s water level rises.

The projects are expected to benefit nearly five lakh people in Faizullaganj, Ghaila, Khadra and surrounding localities. During recent flooding, around 6,500 houses in the area were reportedly affected, leaving thousands of families facing considerable hardship. A drainage network connecting Nyay Vihar to the Eldico drain is also planned.

Lucknow Development Authority Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar is expected to play a key role in advancing the development project, while municipal drainage and civic infrastructure will be important components under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar.

The Chief Minister has directed the departments concerned to coordinate closely and complete the work within the stipulated timelines. He has also stressed improvements in roads, sewerage, drinking water supply and electricity infrastructure in flood-affected areas.

Additional plans include establishing an integrated educational institution offering classes from pre-primary to Class 12 in Faizullaganj, upgrading primary health centres in affected localities to community health centres, and setting up a new 132-kV substation to strengthen electricity supply.

With the projects now approved, attention will turn to construction and timely implementation. Residents are hoping the proposed infrastructure will provide lasting relief from the recurring floods and waterlogging that disrupt life in the area each year.
