Yogi govt to launch special Raksha Bandhan plantation drive

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s efforts to enhance Uttar Pradesh’s environmental forest cover are yielding promising results, with a unique initiative set to unfold this Raksha Bandhan. In collaboration with the Forest Department, a special plantation drive will take place, symbolizing the bond between brothers and sisters while also promoting environmental conservation.

As part of the ‘Ped Lagao-Ped Bachao Jan Abhiyan-2024,’ on Monday, siblings will participate in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign by planting saplings at the Heritage Tree Garden in Kukrail, Lucknow. The Forest Department has actively engaged many brothers and sisters to partake in this meaningful event. In addition to planting, participants will take a pledge to nurture the saplings into full-grown trees, symbolically tying a Raksha Sutra around them.

This initiative, aimed at expanding the state’s green cover, will not only take place in Lucknow but will also be implemented across various forest divisions. The event invites the general public to contribute by planting their own saplings, further solidifying the state’s commitment to environmental protection under CM Yogi’s leadership.

Plantation will be done near Heritage Tree Garden in Kukrail

On Rakshabandhan, a special tree plantation drive will be conducted near the Heritage Tree Garden in Kukrail, Lucknow, as part of the Forest Department’s ongoing efforts to enhance environmental conservation. The Divisional Forest Officer of Lucknow, Sitashu Pandey, shared that preparations are underway, and approximately 200 brothers and sisters have been contacted to participate in this meaningful event. These participants will plant trees in the Heritage Tree Garden, alongside officers and employees of the Forest Department.

In addition to planting trees, participants will also take the pledge to protect the saplings by tying a Raksha Sutra around them, symbolizing their commitment to nurturing the plants until they grow into full-fledged trees. The Forest Department is collaborating with social and cultural organizations to ensure the success of this initiative. Just as sisters tie Rakhi to their brothers for protection, the planting of trees will serve as a symbolic gift to nature, ensuring the protection and growth of these green plants.

36.51 crore saplings were planted in UP in one day

This initiative is part of the larger ‘Ped Lagao, Ped Bachao Jan Abhiyan-2024,’ under which a remarkable 36.51 crore saplings were planted in a single day on July 20. CM Yogi led the campaign by planting saplings in Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Gorakhpur. The campaign, which runs until September 30, will continue to promote environmental conservation, with additional saplings being planted on Rakshabandhan as part of the ongoing efforts.
