- Turning towards EVs is a better option amid the serious situation in Gulf countries, reduce dependence on petrol and diesel: Minister
Lucknow: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh Government is continuously taking effective steps to promote a clean, safe, and environment-friendly transport system. In this direction, under the vision of the state government, the Electric Vehicle (EV) Purchase Subsidy Scheme being implemented by the Transport Department is playing a significant role in increasing the use of electric vehicles in the state.
Through the scheme, thousands of consumers have received financial assistance, while public confidence in electric vehicles has also been strengthened. Under the scheme, the Yogi Government has distributed more than Rs 210 crore as subsidy.
Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh said, “Amid the serious situation in the Gulf countries and the oil crisis, turning towards EVs is the better option. The state government’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Purchase Subsidy Scheme is providing excellent support in this direction. It will reduce dependence on fuels such as petrol and diesel, and a better environment will improve people’s health. With this vision, the state government has created a new record by disbursing more than Rs 210 crore in subsidies.”
According to the Transport Department, more than 96,778 electric vehicles have been registered in the state so far. Of these, 43,218 beneficiaries have been provided the benefit of the EV Purchase Subsidy. This figure shows that the scheme has benefited a large number of ordinary citizens and that people are rapidly adopting electric vehicles.
During the first nearly three years after the launch of the scheme, the Yogi Government has distributed a record subsidy of more than Rs 210 crore. This has reduced the initial cost for consumers purchasing electric vehicles.

To maintain transparency in the scheme, the Transport Department has also made available a live counter for registrations and applications on the online portal.
Under the EV Purchase Subsidy Scheme, two-wheeler electric vehicles have received the maximum benefit. According to departmental data, 61,417 electric two-wheelers have benefited under the scheme. Owing to their lower cost, lower operating expenses, and suitability for daily use, the demand for electric scooters and motorcycles has increased rapidly. The original framework of the scheme had also given special emphasis to two-wheelers by setting a target of providing subsidies for up to 2 lakh two-wheelers.
Under the scheme, the government has not limited the benefits to two-wheelers alone but has also set targets to provide subsidies for 25,000 four-wheelers, 400 e-buses, and 1,000 e-goods carrier vehicles. This has led to a concrete initiative towards promoting electric vehicles not only for private use but also in public transport and goods transportation.
The increasing use of electric vehicles is helping reduce carbon emissions, curb air pollution, and lessen dependence on petrol and diesel. At the same time, it is also reducing transportation costs for ordinary citizens. This is why the pace of EV adoption in the state is continuously increasing.
