Mumbai: For actor Gaurav Singh who is known for Shiksha Mandal, Devanshi and Krishna Kanhaiya, Navratri is a reminder to stay grounded, choose kindness, and maintain a sense of balance in everyday life. Beyond the celebrations, he sees the festival as an opportunity to reflect on personal values, family, and well-being.
Asked what the triumph of good over evil means to him today, he keeps the idea simple. “It is about choosing kindness over bitterness. Life will always have its share of challenges, but as long as you continue to do the right thing and stay true to yourself, you are already winning that battle,” he said.

His childhood memories of Navratri are closely tied to the sense of community around the festival. “My childhood memories of Navratri are really about people coming together,” he said. He remembers the celebrations taking place in public spaces, with the entire neighborhood involved. “I remember public grounds being decorated, food being arranged, and children from the neighborhood gathering at one place. There was so much excitement and innocence around it,” he said.
More than any particular celebration, it is that feeling of togetherness that has stayed with him. “I think what stays with me even today is that beautiful sense of community,” he said. That is also the value he would like to see passed on to future generations. “Today, with everyone becoming increasingly busy and connected digitally, I think that feeling of physically coming together is something worth preserving and passing on,” he said. For someone balancing a demanding career, family time during festivals also carries special importance. “I believe work is an important part of life, but it shouldn’t become life itself,” he said.

Whenever possible, he believes family celebrations should be given priority. “Whenever you get an opportunity to celebrate a festival with your family, I feel it should be a priority,” he said. He accepts that professional commitments can sometimes make that difficult but believes those moments with family ultimately give success greater meaning. “There may be times when work doesn’t allow it, but ultimately, success feels more meaningful when you have your family to share it with,” he said.
Beyond the celebrations, another aspect of Navratri that resonates with him is fasting. “One thing I appreciate about Navratri is the idea of fasting and giving your body and mind a break. For me, it is a reminder of moderation, discipline, and taking care of your overall well-being,” Gaurav said.
