Uttar Pradesh to play home to North India’s first Forestry University

Lucknow: As per the intention of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Gorakhpur Forest Division is going to register another big achievement. North India’s first and the country’s second Forestry University will be opened under this forest division which opened the world’s first King Vulture (Jatayu) Conservation Center.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced this about a month ago. Speeding up the process for the establishment of the university, Gorakhpur Forest Division has also identified 50 hectares of land near the Jatayu Conservation Center.

The world’s first Jatayu Conservation and Conservation Center has been built in Campierganj (Bhariwasi) of Gorakhpur Forest Division for the conservation and promotion of the endangered King Vultures (Red Headed Vulture).

In its inauguration ceremony on September 6, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced the construction of a Forestry College (Vaniki Mahavidyalaya) in Gorakhpur Forest Division. Later, in a meeting with the officials regarding this, he expressed his intention to build a Forestry University City instead of a Forestry College.

As per the intention of the Chief Minister, the officials have started preparations. Along with designing the courses to be run in the Forestry University, the search for land to build the university was started. After looking at some lands, the Gorakhpur Forest Division has found 50 hectares of land near the Jatayu Conservation Center prima facie suitable for setting up a Forestry University. Since geographically this land is in Maharajganj district, the Gorakhpur Forest Division has corresponded with the government for allotment of it in the name of the Forestry University.

Social and agroforestry will also be taught

Gorakhpur Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Vikas Yadav says that along with completing the necessary procedures for setting up a Forestry University, a draft of the courses to be run here is also being prepared. A committee of technical experts has been formed for this. The DFO says that apart from forestry, there is a plan to run degree and diploma courses in agroforestry and social forestry in the Forestry University so that a large number of youth can get ample job and employment opportunities.
