State Wins Top Honours at PM Surya Ghar Awards Ceremony; Lucknow Emerges as India’s No. 1 Solar District
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has achieved remarkable success in the solar energy sector, securing top positions in multiple categories at the PM Surya Ghar Awards Ceremony held in New Delhi. The achievement highlights the state’s growing leadership in promoting clean and renewable energy across the country.
Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, Uttar Pradesh secured third place nationally in the “Top Three State Installations” category, based on the number of solar installations completed. Gujarat ranked first in the category. The recognition reflects the increasing adoption of solar power and the effective implementation of renewable energy initiatives across the state.
A major highlight of the awards was Lucknow’s emergence as the highest-ranked solar district in India. The district recorded 102,596 solar installations, significantly ahead of second-placed Nagpur, which registered 89,255 installations. The achievement underscores the rapid expansion of rooftop solar infrastructure in urban Uttar Pradesh.
The state also secured first place in the “Very High Consumer Base” category. In addition, Uttar Pradesh topped the nation in several key indicators, including the highest number of consumer applications, maximum solar installations, and the largest vendor registrations under the scheme.
Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma attributed the success to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He said their guidance has accelerated Uttar Pradesh’s journey toward energy self-reliance and sustainable development.
Congratulating officials, vendors, beneficiaries, and citizens across the state, Sharma said the government remains committed to expanding solar energy adoption. He emphasized that solar power not only provides clean and affordable electricity but also plays a crucial role in reducing pollution, strengthening energy security, and protecting the environment.
“Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a frontrunner in India’s solar energy revolution. This achievement is the result of the collective efforts of citizens, government agencies, vendors, and public representatives. We are confident of setting even higher benchmarks in clean energy in the years ahead,” Sharma said.
The state’s strong performance at the national awards ceremony further reinforces Uttar Pradesh’s position as a leading contributor to India’s renewable energy transition and its commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and energy-secure future.
