Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring an uninterrupted supply of fertilisers to farmers during the ongoing Kharif season, with Agriculture, Agricultural Education and Research Minister Surya Pratap Shahi directing officials and fertiliser companies to maintain adequate stocks and ensure timely distribution across the state.
Chairing a high-level fertiliser review meeting at the Vidhan Bhavan in Lucknow on Tuesday, Shahi instructed fertiliser manufacturers and suppliers to complete 100 percent of the allocations made by the Government of India within the remaining days of July. The meeting was attended by the Cooperation Minister, the Minister of State for Agriculture, representatives of fertiliser manufacturing and supplying companies, and senior government officials.
The minister stressed that farmers should have seamless access to fertilisers during the critical period of paddy transplantation and sowing of other Kharif crops. He said there is no shortage of fertilisers in Uttar Pradesh and sufficient stocks are available across cooperative and private retail outlets.
As of July 20, the state had 15.98 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 5.02 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, 4.93 lakh metric tonnes of NPK, 3.63 lakh metric tonnes of SSP and 1.11 lakh metric tonnes of MOP in stock. Current average daily consumption stands at 27,232 metric tonnes of urea, 6,261 metric tonnes of DAP and 1,851 metric tonnes of NPK, reflecting steady demand from farmers.
The government also appealed to farmers to complete their Farmer Registry based on their land records or registered ownership documents to facilitate smooth access to fertilisers according to crop recommendations. Farmers were further advised against unnecessary advance stocking, as adequate supplies are available and hoarding could disrupt the distribution chain.
Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against black marketing, hoarding and overpricing of fertilisers, the state government highlighted its enforcement drive between April 1 and July 21, 2026. During this period, authorities conducted 7,364 inspections, suspended 136 fertiliser licences, cancelled 35 licences, issued 694 show-cause notices, sealed 19 retail outlets, and registered 30 FIRs. Enforcement teams also sealed or seized 266.60 metric tonnes of fertiliser stock.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Agriculture Principal Secretary Ravindra, Cooperation Principal Secretary Ajay Kumar Shukla, Agriculture Secretary Indra Vikram Singh, Cooperation Commissioner Yogesh Kumar, Agriculture Director Dr. Pankaj Tripathi, Joint Director (Fertilisers) Harendra Mishra, along with other departmental officers. The government said it will continue close monitoring of fertiliser availability to ensure farmers receive timely inputs throughout the Kharif season.
