Varanasi: All the rivers are in spate due to continuous rain in the hilly areas. Ganga is showing its fiercest side in the religious city of Kashi. All the 84 ghats built on the banks of Ganga have been completely submerged. Ganga water has also reached Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project ‘Namo Ghat’.
Water level rising at the speed of 3 centimeters per hour
It is worth noting that in the month of Sawan, devotees and tourists from all over the country come to Kashi, but this time they are looking very disappointed due to the flood. The water level of Ganga has reached 68.09 meters, which is about two meters below the warning level and about three meters below the danger mark. The water level is rising at the speed of three centimeters per hour.
Tourists facing trouble due to rising water level
A devotee from Gujarat said that there is some trouble due to rising water level, but it is a lot of fun to roam here. There is a problem in going from one ghat to another. Also, due to the continuous rise in the water level, boats are not running, due to which people are not able to enjoy the ride in the Ganga. On the other hand, Ashok, a tourist from Surat, said that boats are not running and people are not being allowed to go near the river.
Water filled at Dashashwamedh Ghat
The Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat is now being done on the roof, while the evening Aarti at Assi Ghat has been shifted from its original place to the concrete post of Banaras. The connectivity between all the 84 ghats of Kashi has been completely broken. If the water level of Ganga continues to rise at this pace, then in the next two-three days the water of Ganga can reach the roads above the ghats.
