Singapore: Gukesh made history as the youngest Chess World Champion, defeating Ding Liren in the 14th round of their World Championship clash in Singapore. At just 18, Gukesh surpassed Garry Kasparov’s record, who was 22 when he won in 1985. Gukesh also became the youngest-ever winner of the FIDE Candidates tournament in April, qualifying for the World Championship final, and is only the second Indian, after Viswanathan Anand, to do so.
