SRH Strengthens Squad with All-Rounder Wiaan Mulder for IPL 2025

Mumbai: As the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) gears up for its commencement on March 22, all ten franchises have been finalizing their squads and strategies. In a recent development, England pacer Brydon Carse has been ruled out of IPL 2025 due to injury. In his place, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has roped in South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder.

Wiaan Mulder Joins SRH as Replacement

SRH has signed Mulder for INR 75 lakh as a replacement for Carse. The 27-year-old all-rounder has represented South Africa in 18 Test matches, 25 ODIs, and 11 T20Is, accumulating 60 wickets and 970 international runs. Mulder was also part of South Africa’s Champions Trophy campaign, which ended in the semifinals with a loss to New Zealand in Lahore.

During the tournament, he played three matches and picked up six wickets, including an impressive 3/25 against England. The IPL 2025 season will mark Mulder’s debut in the league after going unsold in the 2024 mega auction held in Jeddah. Prior to this, he played for Durban Super Giants in South Africa’s domestic T20 league.

Brydon Carse Ruled Out Due to Injury

Carse was initially signed by SRH for INR 1 crore during the auction. However, the pacer’s recurring left leg injury resurfaced during England’s white-ball series in India earlier this year. Though he recovered temporarily, the injury worsened during South Africa’s Champions Trophy opener against Australia, where he conceded 69 runs in seven overs. As a result, Carse had to withdraw from the tournament and subsequently from the IPL.

SRH’s Journey in IPL 2024

Led by Pat Cummins, Sunrisers Hyderabad had an impressive run in IPL 2024, finishing as runners-up after losing to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final. With key players set to return, including Cummins—who missed the recent Sri Lanka tour and Champions Trophy due to personal reasons and an injury—SRH is aiming for a strong title challenge in the upcoming season.

The IPL 2025 season is set to begin with a high-voltage clash on March 22 at Eden Gardens, featuring Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
