New Delhi: Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), the defence public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, has announced the appointment of Shailesh Vagerwal as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). He officially assumed charge.
Before taking over the leadership of BDL, Vagerwal served as Chief General Manager at the Ordnance Factory, Khamaria, Jabalpur, a unit of Munitions India Limited. An officer of the Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS), he brings nearly three decades of experience in India’s defence manufacturing sector.
A graduate in Mechanical Engineering from MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur, Vagerwal also holds a Master of Science in Explosive Ordnance Engineering from Cranfield University, United Kingdom.
Over the course of his career, he has held several key leadership positions across the ordnance factory network, including assignments at Ordnance Factory Dum Dum, Ordnance Factory Itarsi, Ordnance Factory Khamaria, and the corporate headquarters of Munitions India Limited in Pune.

His professional expertise covers a broad spectrum of defence manufacturing, including ammunition and explosives production, strategic planning, quality assurance, project management, research and development, procurement of plant and machinery, exports, business development, human resource management, material management and industrial relations.
As the new CMD, Vagerwal will lead Bharat Dynamics Limited at a time when the company is expanding its role in strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities. BDL is one of the country’s premier defence public sector undertakings and is best known for designing and manufacturing guided missile systems, underwater weapons and other advanced defence equipment for the Indian Armed Forces.
