New York: In the Group-A match of the T20 World Cup, the Indian team defeated Pakistan by 6 runs. The heroes of India’s victory were the bowlers of Team India, who did not allow Pakistan to score even 120 runs in 120 balls. Pakistan’s team could score only 113 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling.
Bumrah took three wickets for just 14 runs. Chasing the target of 120 runs given by India, Pakistan’s team got off to a good start. Captain Babar Azam (13 runs) and Mohammad Rizwan (33 runs) together added 26 runs for the first wicket. However, as soon as Babar was out, the team’s run-scoring pace slowed down. After Babar, the team scored only 57 runs in 10 overs after losing the wicket of Usman Khan (13 runs). After this, Fakhar Zaman could score only 13 runs, Imad Wasim 15 runs, Shadab Khan 4 runs and Iftikhar Ahmed 5 runs.
Pakistan had to score 16 runs in the last over
Pakistan needed 16 runs to win in the last over but despite two fours by Naseem Shah, the team could score only 9 runs. In this way India defeated Pakistan by 6 runs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah took three and Hardik Pandya took two wickets while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel got one wicket each.
Team India could not even play 20 overs
Earlier, after losing the toss and batting, India scored 119 runs in 19 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma contributed 13 runs, Rishabh Pant 42 runs and Axar Patel 20 runs. Apart from these, no batsman could touch the double digit mark. The Indian team was all out against Pakistan for the first time in T20 International. This was India’s lowest score against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. Naseem Shah and Harish Rauf took three wickets each from Pakistan’s side. While Mohammad Aamir took two and Shaheen Shah Afridi took one wicket.
