The Mar Gregorios Syrian Church, Society, and its wider community came together in unity to celebrate Onam 2024 with immense joy and traditional fervor. The event took place on 15 September 2024 , bringing together people of all ages to partake in the vibrant festivities that highlight the rich cultural heritage of Kerala.
The celebrations commenced with an opening prayer led by Rev. Fr. Jaison Joseph, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and the spirit of prosperity that Onam represents.
A wide array of cultural programs followed, with performances that reflected Kerala’s unique artistic traditions. These included Thiruvathira, a traditional dance performed by Sunday school students . Children and youth of the community enthusiastically participated in dance and music performances, adding vibrancy to the occasion,
Athapookalam done by women and children together.The highlight of the day was the grand Onam Sadya, a traditional vegetarian feast served on banana leaves. The Sadya, prepared with love and care by community members, exemplified the spirit of sharing and togetherness that is at the heart of Onam.
