Lucknow: As per the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner, the Municipal Corporation took action in front of Bhola Nursery under Dubagga Road, Faridipur area under Thakurganj Police Station Zone 6. A campaign to remove illegal dairy was run by the Municipal Corporation under the leadership of Animal Welfare Officer Dr. Abhinav Verma with the help of police force, enforcement team and cattle catching employees.
A total of 11 buffaloes, 2 calves, 1 cow were caught on the spot and detained in Alamnagar by the Municipal Corporation, the cattle will be released only after action as per rules. As per the order of the High Court, a letter will also be sent to the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Police on behalf of the Municipal Corporation to ensure that illegal dairies are not re-established.
During the campaign, there was heavy protest and siege which was pacified by the police force. Women tried to stop the vehicles. Illegal dairy operators had encroached the main road and empty plots by tying a large number of cows and buffaloes there, and the dung was being thrown on the road, which was obstructing the main road and along with affecting traffic, there was a danger of many types of diseases, which made it difficult for the local people to walk.
Along with the local people, the business community was also angry about this and their business was getting affected, regarding which they had lodged a complaint with the Municipal Corporation, the traders had also informed about the problem through major newspapers.
Due to illegal and uncontrolled animal husbandry, drains were getting choked and proceedings under many Right to Information and IGRS were also pending and even after warnings and notices, the dairy operators had not removed the dairy. As per the order of the High Court, dairy business is not allowed in the Municipal Corporation residential areas. Municipal Corporation of Lucknow allows the rearing of a maximum of two cows with a license. According to the Municipal Corporation Act 1959, buffalo is considered a polluting animal, hence permission to rear buffaloes is not given by Municipal Corporation of Lucknow.
