MotoGP: International motorcycle racers will race in Uttar Pradesh from 2025

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has achieved a major milestone by further strengthening India’s claim in the global sports world. The state’s investment promotion agency, Invest UP,  signed an unprecedented contract with Dorna Sports S.L., a sports company that has successfully organized MotoGP races across the world.

This contract will give Uttar Pradesh a new identity on the global sports platform and also provides a golden opportunity to host the MotoGP race every year from 2025. Chief Secretary-cum-Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner  Manoj Kumar Singh signed the contract on behalf of Invest UP, while  Carmelo Izpeleta signed the contract on behalf of Dorna Sports S.L., thus sealing the return of MotoGP to Uttar Pradesh.
Supported by Invest UP, this agreement underlines Uttar Pradesh’s unwavering commitment to promote the sport and attract substantial investments.

To ensure smooth conduct of the ‘MotoGP India’ event, the Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a high-level executive committee headed by the Chief Secretary, Shri Manoj Kumar Singh, comprising the Chief Executive Officers of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authorities, District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Chief Sports Officer of Dorna Sports SL, etc.

This high-level executive committee will be assisted by an operations committee comprising representatives from the state’s industrial development authorities, local administration, Chief Sports Officer of Dorna Sports, along with some prominent investors from the state. In addition, Invest UP will select a promoter through competitive bidding to promote the event.

The thrilling MotoGP race will be held at the world-renowned Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, which is renowned for hosting top-level motorsport events. Through the strategic collaboration with Dorna, Uttar Pradesh aims to organise every MotoGP event seamlessly, thereby establishing Uttar Pradesh as a global sporting hub.

Chief Secretary-cum-Infrastructure & Industrial Development Commissioner,  Manoj Kumar Singh, underscored the positive impact this contract will have on the reputation of the state, saying, “Bringing MotoGP to Uttar Pradesh will not only give our state a new identity on the global sporting platform but will also spur substantial economic growth in tourism, hospitality and related sectors. The event will attract spectators from across the globe and also highlight Uttar Pradesh’s capability to host world-class sporting events.”

Founded in 1988, Dorna Sports is the exclusive commercial and TV rights holder for MotoGP, a motorcycle racing championship. Based in Madrid, Spain, the Barcelona-based group is a leader in sports management, marketing and media. The group also has a branch in Rome.

Dorna Sports’ extensive experience in organising MotoGP races globally is a guarantee of its successful organisation in the state. This unprecedented agreement between the Uttar Pradesh government and Dorna Sports reflects the state government’s proactive efforts to promote economic and cultural development.
