Mega Cricket Hub Near Delhi: ₹2,200-Crore Stadium and Aerocity Project Planned in Ghaziabad

Lucknow/Ghaziabad: In a major boost to sports infrastructure and urban development, a ₹2,200-crore mega project featuring an international cricket stadium and an integrated aerocity township has been proposed in Ghaziabad, near the national capital.

The ambitious project, spread across 417 acres in Rajnagar Extension (Morti area), aims to transform the region into a world-class hub for sports, tourism, and business. Officials said the plan includes a state-of-the-art cricket stadium along with a large-scale urban development model combining residential, commercial, and recreational facilities.

According to authorities, the cricket stadium will be developed over 37 acres at an estimated cost of around ₹400 crore. With a seating capacity of approximately 30,000 spectators, the venue will feature modern amenities such as advanced floodlighting, a high-tech media centre, and international-standard facilities, enabling western Uttar Pradesh to host major global cricket matches for the first time.

The remaining 380 acres will be utilised for the aerocity project, estimated at ₹1,800 crore. This integrated township will include luxury hotels, resorts, shopping malls, retail zones, office spaces, entertainment centres, and a high-tech business hub, creating a complete “live-work-play” ecosystem.

The project is being spearheaded by the Ghaziabad Development Authority in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association under a joint venture model. Officials indicated that the proposal has received board approval and is expected to move towards the groundwork phase soon.

The initiative is aligned with the development vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, focusing on positioning Ghaziabad as a major destination for sports, tourism, and high-tech urban growth. An international convention centre is also planned as a key attraction within the project.

Originally conceptualised around 2014-15, the project had remained stalled for years but has now been revived and prioritised for implementation. Authorities believe its execution will mark a turning point in the region’s development trajectory.

In addition to the stadium and township, the project will include a sports academy, smart residential complexes, green spaces, and outdoor sports facilities, making it a comprehensive urban destination.

Officials highlighted that the development will generate large-scale employment opportunities across sectors such as construction, hospitality, retail, and services. Its proximity to Delhi and key transport hubs is expected to attract both domestic and international investors.

Once completed, the project is likely to significantly boost the economic landscape of Ghaziabad and the wider western Uttar Pradesh region, while also enhancing India’s sports infrastructure with a new international cricket venue.
