Prayagraj: The Mahakumbh in Prayagraj is witnessing an unprecedented gathering of devotees, with an estimated 8-10 crore pilgrims present in the city today. Yesterday, around 5.5 crore devotees performed the sacred bath at the Sangam, creating immense pressure on the Sangam Nose area.
Amid the overwhelming rush, some devotees were injured while attempting to climb over barricades on Akhara Marg late at night, between 1-2 AM. The injured individuals were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals, with reports of a few being seriously hurt.
The administration is actively working to ensure the safety and smooth passage of devotees for the ritual bath. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally inquired about the situation four times since this morning, while BJP President J.P. Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have also been closely monitoring developments in Prayagraj.
Despite the immense crowd pressure, authorities have assured that the situation is under control. Conversations with saints and spiritual leaders revealed their agreement to allow pilgrims to bathe first, with the Akharas proceeding to the Sangam afterward. All Akharas have collectively decided to prioritize the safety and convenience of the devotees.
Officials have appealed to the public to avoid falling prey to rumors and to exercise patience and discipline. “This event belongs to the people, and the administration is dedicated to serving them,” said a senior official. The government is fully prepared to provide all necessary support to ensure a successful and safe Mahakumbh.
Authorities have also urged devotees not to rush to the Sangam Nose, emphasizing that temporary bathing ghats have been set up within a 15-20 kilometer radius. Pilgrims are encouraged to use these facilities to reduce crowding and ensure a safer experience for everyone.
The Mahakumbh, known as one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, continues to attract millions of devotees from across the country and beyond, making it a symbol of faith, spirituality, and cultural unity.
