Lucknow Sub-Inspector Suspended Over Bribery Allegations; ACP to Record Statements

Lucknow: A sub-inspector posted at Rahimabad Police Station in Lucknow has been suspended after allegations of bribery and custodial assault surfaced against him. The inquiry has now entered the next stage, with the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Aliganj, set to record statements from both the accused officer and the complainant before submitting a detailed investigation report to senior officials.

The suspended officer, Sub-Inspector Guddu Prasad, was removed from duty after a complaint alleged that he illegally detained a youth, assaulted him, and extorted money from his family in connection with a fraud case.

According to the complaint filed by Vishnu Kumar, a resident of Karend village in Mal area of Lucknow, his brother Santosh has been missing for the past three years and is named in a cheating case registered at Rahimabad Police Station. Vishnu claimed that neither he nor his family had any connection with the case.

The complainant alleged that despite this, the sub-inspector took his son, Shantanu, into custody from the Gahdon police outpost without justification. He further claimed that the youth was illegally confined, physically assaulted, and released only after the family paid ₹25,000. The family has also alleged that the officer later demanded an additional ₹1.5 lakh.

The allegations gained wider attention after an audio and video clip, purportedly showing the officer demanding money, circulated on social media. The authenticity of the recordings is expected to be examined as part of the official investigation.

Taking cognisance of the complaint and the viral material, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Gopal Krishna Chaudhary suspended the sub-inspector and ordered a departmental inquiry. The investigation has been entrusted to the ACP, Aliganj.

Police officials said statements of both the complainant’s family and the suspended officer will be recorded in the coming days. The inquiry will also include an examination of the viral audio and video evidence before a report is submitted to senior authorities for further action.

The case underscores the Uttar Pradesh Police’s commitment to investigating allegations of misconduct within the force, while ensuring due process during the departmental inquiry.
