Laser-Light Show Inaugurated at Smritika War Memorial in Lucknow, Showcasing Indian Army’s Valour

Lucknow: A state-of-the-art laser, light and sound show depicting the bravery and legacy of the Indian Armed Forces was inaugurated at the Smritika War Memorial in Lucknow Cantonment.

The inauguration was jointly carried out by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The 30-minute Hindi multimedia presentation uses advanced projection, lighting and sound technologies to narrate the journey of the Indian Armed Forces and their contribution to nation-building.

The show offers a comprehensive overview of India’s major wars, including the conflicts of 1947-48, 1962, 1965 and 1971, along with key military operations such as Operation Meghdoot and Operation Vijay. It also highlights the pivotal role played by the Army’s Central Command and brings to life the valour of Param Vir Chakra awardees from the Awadh region.

Designed as a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Indian soldiers, the presentation blends historical narratives with contemporary themes, including military modernisation under the vision of a self-reliant India. Special emphasis has been placed on the evolving nature of warfare and the steps being taken by the Indian defence sector to address emerging challenges.

The show also showcases advancements in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem and highlights Uttar Pradesh’s emergence as a key hub under the Defence Corridor initiative, aligning with the broader “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision.

Officials said the show will be organized daily in the evening at the memorial and will soon be opened to the general public. It is expected to serve as a major attraction for visitors and a source of inspiration for young people.

To support the multimedia experience, the memorial premises has undergone significant upgrades, including installation of high-end projectors and sound systems, creation of a modern amphitheatre, and development of thematic murals depicting military history and war trophies. Three specially designed mural walls will also act as dynamic backdrops for the show.

The initiative has been implemented by the Army’s Central Command in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government and the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation.

Established in 1994, the Smritika War Memorial stands as a tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and indomitable spirit of soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces. Maintained by the Central Command, it has played a key role in preserving military heritage and promoting awareness among citizens, particularly the youth.

Senior military officials, including General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, along with state government officials, were present at the inauguration.

The daily laser-light show is expected to further enhance the stature of the memorial as a symbol of national pride, while strengthening the bond between the armed forces and civilians by presenting India’s military history in an engaging and immersive format.
