Mumbai: Mohak Meet is all set to be seen in a completely different role with *The Lift*, the new show on the Directors Kut Production YouTube channel, created by Ishika Shahi. Known for his work in projects like *Khatta Meetha* on ZEE5, *Indian Police Force* on Amazon Prime Video, *Sonu Monu Ke Papa*, *Kukkad & Sons*, *Anjaan Parindey*, *Girls Planning* and *Moms*, the actor plays Suchit in the new thriller.
*The Lift* revolves around four people who get trapped inside an elevator after an accident. As they try to understand what has happened to them, the lift begins revealing their secrets and forces them to confront their past. For Mohak, it was the unusual concept that made him immediately interested in the show.
Talking about why he chose *The Lift*, Mohak says, “The Lift is a very unique concept, and that was the biggest reason I wanted to be a part of it. When I first went to the Directors Kut Productions office, I met Rajan Sir, who was so warm and welcoming that I instantly felt comfortable. Then I met Ishika, and I immediately loved her enthusiasm and energy. When she narrated the story to me, I was genuinely blown away by the concept.”
He adds, “It felt so fresh and different. As an actor, you always want to be part of stories that give you something new to explore and allow you to deliver something meaningful, and The Lift had exactly that for me. It is the kind of story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the way the story unfolds with every episode is unbelievable. Honestly, after hearing the narration, I just wanted to start shooting immediately.” Mohak describes Suchit as someone who is simple, honest and easy for the audience to connect with. “For me, Suchit is a very relatable character. He is someone who doesn’t speak unnecessarily, but whenever he does speak, he is always on point. He is sensitive towards other people’s feelings and doesn’t intentionally hurt anyone. I think there is a part of Suchit that many people can relate to.”
According to the actor, Suchit’s honesty is what separates him from the other characters. “What makes him different is his honesty. Suchit doesn’t shy away from accepting his flaws or facing reality. Even when the truth is difficult to accept, he is willing to acknowledge it rather than run away from it. I think that honesty is what makes him stand apart from the other characters.” Mohak also made a conscious effort to bring realism to his appearance and body language. Since Suchit is a delivery guy who works long hours, the actor wanted him to look like someone who genuinely lives that life.
“I wanted to make sure that Suchit felt like a real delivery guy, rather than just someone playing a delivery guy. One of the things I consciously worked on was my physicality,” he explains.“The moment I was cast, I knew we were going on the floor in the second week of June, so I actually stopped exercising and lifting weights. I wanted my body language to reflect someone who works day and night, barely gets time for himself and certainly doesn’t have the luxury of going to the gym regularly. I wanted that reality to come through in his appearance and body language,” he adds.
What also interested Mohak was Suchit’s ability to accept the truth when everyone else is struggling to understand what is happening. “What I also found interesting about Suchit is that he is the only one among them who actually realises that they are dead. For me, that says a lot about who he is as a person. He doesn’t deny reality, even when the reality is extremely difficult to accept. That became an important part of how I approached him.”
The character also carries a sense of guilt from his past. Mohak feels that Suchit has been carrying his confession within him for a long time.
“I feel Suchit’s confession was always somewhere inside him. He carried that guilt with him, but he still chose not to hide it,” Mohak says.
He explains, “The reason he ran away from his hometown was because he didn’t want to get caught. He tried to start a new journey and move forward, but that doesn’t mean he stopped carrying what happened with him.”
“For Suchit, what he did was the worst thing he had ever done, even though it wasn’t something he did deliberately. That’s how sensitive and honest he is. He doesn’t compare his actions to somebody else’s and say, ‘Someone else has done something much worse.’ For him, if he believes he has done something wrong, he owns it,” he adds.
Shooting most of the show inside a lift was another experience for Mohak. He says that while the setup was technically difficult, the team made the process much easier.
“It was definitely challenging. The moment we entered the set, it genuinely felt like we were inside a real lift. We even had mirrors on the set, which made things even more challenging from a camera and shooting perspective,” he shares.
“But the way everything was planned made the process surprisingly smooth. Everyone on the team was extremely professional, and they made us feel comfortable throughout. We were also shooting in June, which was peak summer, so being inside a confined space for long hours was not easy. But our production team took such good care of us.”
Mohak believes the biggest takeaway from Suchit’s journey is the importance of being honest with oneself.
“I hope audiences take away the importance of honesty from Suchit’s journey. He is very honest and sensitive, but at the same time, he is courageous enough to accept his flaws and face reality.”
He further says, “He is also a genuinely good human being. Even though he doesn’t have much himself, he is someone who is willing to help people who are less fortunate. He is hardworking and is working constantly because he wants to support and help his family.”
For Mohak, Suchit’s confession is one of the moments that could stay with viewers. “His confession is something I feel will really stay with the audience. It is heartbreaking because you understand what he has been carrying inside him. I think people will not just see Suchit as a character; they will feel what he is going through.”
The actor also shares a warm bond with Ishika Shahi and remembers several small moments from the shoot. “My experience working with Ishika is very special. She is an incredibly enthusiastic person, and that energy is something you feel the moment she walks onto the set. From the very first day till the last day, she would come in the morning and wish me, ‘Happy first day of shoot!’ It became such a sweet little thing throughout the entire shoot.”
He recalls one particular incident from an outdoor shoot. “I remember one particular day when we were shooting a scene outdoors. It was extremely sunny, and Ishika came with her umbrella and gave it to me. She even had a hand fan with her so that I wouldn’t feel too hot and humid. That small gesture really stayed with me because she genuinely takes care of the people around her.”
Praising Ishika’s passion for the project, Mohak says, “Her passion is also very visible in her work. She brings so much enthusiasm and energy to the set, and I absolutely loved being around her.”
He also remembers Rajan Sir’s support throughout the shoot. “Rajan Sir was also such a positive presence on set. The way he would encourage us and constantly boost our confidence made our days go so well. I feel very fortunate to have worked with both of them, and I would genuinely love to continue working with Ishika in the future. She is the best.”
