Lucknow– In a landmark event that underscores Uttar Pradesh’s growing significance in the industrial landscape, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF), hosted a “Public-Private Workshop on the India Centre for Advanced Manufacturing.” Held at PICUP Bhawan, Lucknow, the workshop brought together key stakeholders from various sectors to lay the foundation for establishing India’s first Centre for Advanced Manufacturing in Uttar Pradesh.
The Centre, envisioned as a hub for cutting-edge technologies, digitization, and innovation, aims to position India at the forefront of global advanced manufacturing. This initiative is set to join the World Economic Forum’s global network of independent national and thematic centres, including the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR). These centres are dedicated to fostering inclusive technology governance and driving responsible digital transformation through multi-stakeholder dialogue and cooperation.
Chief Secretary and Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner, Government of UP, Manoj Kumar Singh, presided over the session.The workshop commenced with a welcome address from Kyriakos Triantafyllidis, Head of Growth and Strategy at the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chain, World Economic Forum. In his address, Singh highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s crucial role in the future of India’s industrial sector, emphasizing the state’s robust industrial ecosystem, supportive policy environment, and dynamic entrepreneurial spirit.
Singh provided a detailed overview of Uttar Pradesh as a pivotal hub for advanced manufacturing and a center for global economic activities. He underscored how this initiative aligns with Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision of transforming Uttar Pradesh into a trillion-dollar economy. Singh noted the goal of boosting the manufacturing sector’s contribution to the state’s GDP from 25% to 45%, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leader in the nation’s advanced manufacturing landscape.
The workshop then proceeded with a presentation by Vandana Menon, Engagement Lead for Asia at the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) Network and Partner Engagement at the World Economic Forum. Menon offered an overview of the global Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chains. Following this, Kyriakos Triantafyllidis presented the concept of the India Centre for Advanced Manufacturing, including key focus areas and the four main priorities of the Centre: resilient value chains, technology and innovation, people-centric transformation, and sustainable systems.
The workshop saw participation from stakeholders representing over 40 prominent companies, including PTC Industries, Maruti Suzuki, Aditya Birla Group, Haier, JK Cement, Ashok Leyland, Greenlam, Hyundai India, HCL Technologies, RACL Greentech Limited, Aditya Birla Group. Bharatiyam Beverages, among others, facilitating in-depth discussions on the strategic direction of the proposed Centre for Advanced Manufacturing. Stakeholders explored how the Centre could bridge global and local agendas by promoting Uttar Pradesh’s local capabilities on a global scale. The Centre is expected to iterate and lead relevant global initiatives within India while fostering a unique network of global, national, and local public-private stakeholders.
During the workshop, participants engaged in a collaborative dialogue, sharing insights and suggestions on how to improve the investment processes and overall business environment in Uttar Pradesh. This open forum was particularly valuable, providing a platform for stakeholders to voice their perspectives and contribute to shaping the future of advanced manufacturing in the state.
