Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee received a major boost on Monday as hundreds of people from Pratapgarh, Sitapur, and Lucknow formally joined the Congress party at the party’s state headquarters in Lucknow.
The induction programme was held in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President and former minister Ajay Rai. The new members expressed their faith in the policies and ideology of the Congress party and reaffirmed their confidence in the party’s national leadership, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
The membership drive was conducted by Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Joining In-Charge Nitin Sharma, who formally administered primary membership of the party to the new entrants.

Among those who joined the Congress were Ashok Kumar Upadhyay, Ram Mani Upadhyay, Ramashankar Upadhyay, Sachin Upadhyay, and Chandra Prakash Upadhyay from Pratapgarh; Raman, Rahul Sahu, Hriday Pandey, and Umesh Mishra from Sitapur; and Vijay Upadhyay, Dilip Kumar Mishra, Pawan Sharma, Anupam Sharma, Premlata Upadhyay, Himanshu Tiwari, Kundan Tiwari, Meena Gupta, and Kirti Upadhyay from Lucknow, along with hundreds of other supporters.
Welcoming the new members into the party, Ajay Rai said the Congress was committed to protecting democracy and constitutional values. He alleged that democratic institutions and the constitutional framework were under pressure and emphasized that the party’s ongoing campaigns for the rights of students, youth, unemployed persons, women, Dalits, backward communities, and minorities would gain further strength with the addition of new members.
He expressed confidence that the growing support for the Congress would help reinforce its efforts to safeguard democratic principles and address issues affecting various sections of society across the state and the country.
