Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi surely knows his moves

New Delhi: Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi, the best-rated Indian in the live rating, has advanced to the top-5 of the FIDE Live Rating rankings after his impressive performance in the French Team Chess Championship 2024.

 

Arjun, who now has an ELO rating of 2769.7, is only behind Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi, Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana of the USA, and Magnus Carlsen of Norway. Arjun has added 8.7 points to his total so far. This week, he momentarily achieved a career-high live rating of 2771.2, making him the first Indian to do so since Vishwanathan Anand. The 20-year-old, who is playing for the Metz Fischer Chess Club, has defeated Germany’s Vitaly Kunin and fellow countryman P. Harikrishna in four of the five games he has played so far. There are still two rounds left in the tournament.

Over the last several months, Arjun has been playing excellent chess. He placed second in the TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament and tied for fifth in the Sharjah Masters Open Tournament.

Additionally, in April, he defeated GMs Kirill Alekseenko and Maksim Chigaev to win the Menorca Open title.
