Gonda: The Gonda Police have claimed to have solved the robbery of a liquor shop salesman in Kotwali Nagar area, arresting a suspected offender after an exchange of fire. The accused sustained a gunshot injury to his left leg during the police action. Police recovered an illegal .315-bore country-made pistol, ammunition, ₹19,500 in cash and a Splendor motorcycle allegedly linked to the case.
According to police, a joint team of Kotwali Nagar Police, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Surveillance Cell was conducting checks on suspicious persons and vehicles during the night of September 6-7, 2026.
Acting on information from a police informer, the team learnt that a suspected criminal was approaching from the Dullapur side on a motorcycle without a number plate. Police personnel reached near Lalpur Khalsa intersection and attempted to intercept him.
Police said the suspect opened fire at the police team with the alleged intention of causing harm. In retaliatory firing carried out in self-defence, the suspect sustained a bullet injury to his left leg. He was apprehended and identified as Yash Pratap Singh, son of Arun Kumar Singh, a resident of Aili Parsauli under Umri Begamganj police station in Gonda.
The injured accused was immediately taken to the district hospital for treatment.
During a search, police allegedly recovered a .315-bore country-made pistol, one live cartridge and one spent cartridge, along with ₹19,500 in cash and a Splendor motorcycle without a registration number.
Robbery Case
The robbery had taken place on September 4, 2026, at around 10:30 pm. According to the police, complainant Ankit Gupta, a salesman at a composite liquor shop in Rudrapur Bishen, was returning towards Balpur market from Ambedkar intersection with his colleague Shivprakash Tiwari after closing the shop.
Two unidentified men riding motorcycles allegedly intercepted them, assaulted them with weapons and threatened to kill them before fleeing with approximately ₹70,000 in cash that the salesman was carrying from the shop.
A case was subsequently registered at Kotwali Nagar police station under relevant provisions of law. Police teams had been working to identify and apprehend those involved.
During interrogation, Yash Pratap Singh allegedly confessed to participating in the September 4 robbery along with his associates, police said. Further legal proceedings against the accused are underway, while efforts are continuing to identify and apprehend the other suspects allegedly involved in the robbery.
Cases Registered
Police said the robbery case, Case Crime No. 819/2026, has been registered under Sections 309(6), 162(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Kotwali Nagar police station.
A separate case, Case Crime No. 824/2026, has been registered against the arrested accused under Section 109(1) of the BNS and Sections 3/25 of the Arms Act.
Recoveries
Police recovered an illegal .315-bore country-made pistol, one spent .315-bore cartridge, one live .315-bore cartridge, ₹19,500 in cash and a Splendor motorcycle without a registration number.
The operation was carried out by Kotwali Nagar Station House Officer Inspector Vindeshwari Mani Tripathi, SOG In-charge Ashutosh Singh along with his team, and Surveillance Cell In-charge Manish Kumar along with his team.
Police said further investigation and legal proceedings are in progress.
