Gonda: Hundreds of lawyers staged a protest at Ambedkar Crossing in Gonda city on Thursday, blocking traffic and raising slogans in support of their various demands. The protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh through the District Magistrate to Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jitendra Gautam, who reached the protest site.
Led by Civil Bar Association president Vijay Prakash Tripathi and Bar Association president Ravichandra Tripathi, the lawyers marched from the Collectorate through the Civil Court premises to Ambedkar Crossing. They formed a human chain and blocked the intersection, bringing vehicular movement to a halt and inconveniencing commuters.
The lawyers demanded immediate measures to address the heat generated by hundreds of AC outdoor units in the Civil Court premises. They also raised concerns over alleged judicial corruption, waterlogging and the risk of disease.
Other demands included electricity, clean drinking water and multi-storey chambers for advocates. Civil Bar Association general secretary Gaurishankar Chaturvedi and Bar Association general secretary Sunil Kumar Pandey coordinated the protest.
