Lucknow: Bhawani Bhikh Shukla, a district panchayat member and representative of the Katra block pramukh in Gonda district, joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday in the presence of party president Akhilesh Yadav at the party headquarters in Lucknow.
Shukla, who was associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), joined the SP along with his family members Bhagwan Shukla, Krishna Bhagwan Shukla, Shiv Bhagwan Shukla, Vishnu Bhagwan Shukla and Shankar Bhagwan Shukla.
Shukla is considered close to former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. He had earlier come into the spotlight following a dispute with Bawan Singh, the BJP MLA from Katra Assembly constituency.
His induction into the Samajwadi Party comes amid political activity in Uttar Pradesh as parties work to strengthen their organisational presence at the grassroots level. The development adds a new dimension to local political equations in Gonda district.
