Mumbai – The makers of the enchanting and magical realism film ‘Fairy Folk’ have made an exciting announcement through their official website, www.fairyfolkthefilm.com. According to them, this website will now also play the role of an online distribution platform where viewers can watch this film directly and in return they have to pay for their preferred amount. This is the first experiment of its kind in India, which also marks the beginning of a new model of film distribution.
Directed by Karan Gaur and starring Rasika Duggal and Mukul Chaddha, ‘Fairy Folk’ had a limited theatrical release in March 2024. Despite gaining popularity through word of mouth, the film faced significant distribution challenges, which led to its premature removal from theaters. Digital platforms are also notoriously reluctant when it comes to showcasing independent films.
In response to these challenges, the team of Fairy Folk has taken an innovative approach by offering the film on their website. The platform allows viewers to pay any amount, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the film regardless of their financial situation.
“Working on an improvised film like Fairy Folk has been one of my most fulfilling experiences as an artist. I am proud that, with this film, we have tried something new at every step – from experimenting with a completely improvised film to producing it ourselves, to securing a theatrical release for an indie film; and now, finding a way to distribute it! It has been a truly liberating experience. I am thrilled that a film made with so much love and hard work can now be presented directly to the audience”, says Rasika Duggal.
Karan Gour said, “Making ‘Fairy Folk’ was a journey filled with both joy and immense challenges. The struggles of independent film distribution are real, but we are extremely excited to bring our film directly to the audience through our website. This approach not only democratizes the distribution of the film but also supports the spirit of independent filmmaking.”
‘Fairy Folk’ highlights the complexities of human relationships through magical realism. It is the story of a genderless creature that disrupts the life of a couple, and takes them on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.
