Lucknow — Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Gomti Nagar, in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Academy of Sciences and the Centre of BioMedical Research held an engaging seminar on “The Sustainability Challenges of the 21st Century.” Leading scientists addressed the students in this seminar.
The event was chaired by Dr Alok Dhawan, Director of the Centre for Biomedical Research (CBMR), Lucknow. While interacting with the students on the meaning of Paryavaran, he also emphasised that Sustainability is about going back to the past. Science, Knowledge and Innovation should be the dictum of students. He nudged the students to experiment and take risks.
The Chief Guest, Professor (Dr) Pankaj Sharma, Professor at the School of Engineering Technology, Purdue University, Indiana (USA), emphasised the urgent need for global efforts to tackle sustainability challenges, encouraging students to adopt responsible practices and raise awareness for a greener, more sustainable future.
Guest of honour Dr C.M. Nautiyal, Secretary of the UP Academy of Sciences and Chairperson of NCSC-UP East, spoke about temperature changes on our planet, reminding the audience that Earth is our only home, as “there is no Planet B.”
The Chief Guest, Dr Pankaj Sharma conducted a group discussion. 100 students brainstormed to conceive a sustainable planet of their choice. Guided by Dr Pankaj Sharma and encouraged by Dr Dhawan and Dr Nautiyal , students worked collaboratively to think and suggest innovative sustainable solutions for Mother Earth. The underlying sentiment of students was to live with the spirit of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam for a sustainable planet.
The session concluded with a dynamic Q&A, where students actively cross-questioned, clarified doubts, and passionately discussed ideas, all united by a shared vision to create a better future. The Principal, Mrs Promini Chopra thanked the dignitaries for raising the consciousness of students.
The seminar reinforced Seth M.R. Jaipuria School’s commitment to fostering awareness and equipping students with the knowledge and values needed to become conscious, responsible global citizens.
