  • Safety of Flood-Prone Areas is Government’s Top Priority, Says Commissioner
  • Emphasis on Quality Construction and Timely Completion of Flood Defence Projects

Gonda: Divisional Commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal conducted an on-site inspection of ongoing flood protection works along the Saryu/Ghaghra River in Gonda district and directed officials to accelerate construction activities while ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.

The inspection was carried out in the flood-prone area of Sonouli Mohammadpur village under Tarabganj tehsil, where new spur construction works are underway on the Sakraur–Bhikharipur Ring Embankment situated on the left bank of the Saryu/Ghaghra River.

Detailed Review of Project Progress

During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed the progress of the project, assessed the quality of construction, and examined whether the works were being executed in accordance with the prescribed timeline.

She stressed that the protection of flood-affected regions remains one of the government’s highest priorities and warned that any negligence in the execution of critical public safety projects would not be tolerated.

Nagpal interacted with officials and representatives of the executing agency to obtain detailed updates on the project. She instructed them to complete all pending works at the earliest and ensure that every aspect of the construction adheres to approved technical standards and quality norms.

Focus on Flood Preparedness Ahead of Monsoon

Highlighting the importance of the project, the Commissioner noted that the construction and restoration of spurs play a crucial role in protecting embankments from the powerful currents of the river during floods and in preventing erosion of riverbanks.

She directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring of the work and resolve any technical or administrative hurdles without delay. Regular inspections and quality checks of construction materials were also ordered to ensure long-term durability and effectiveness of the flood protection structures.

No Compromise on Public Safety

During the inspection, Nagpal emphasized that the safety of residents living along the riverbanks is of paramount importance. She stated that all stages of the project must be executed with complete transparency, accountability, and adherence to engineering specifications.

“Public safety-related works cannot be compromised under any circumstances. Quality and timely completion must remain the foremost priorities,” she said.

Timely Completion to Benefit Thousands of Residents

The Divisional Commissioner expressed confidence that all concerned departments would work in close coordination to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe. She said that timely completion of the flood defence works would provide enhanced protection to residents of Sonouli Mohammadpur and nearby vulnerable villages from flooding and riverbank erosion.

She added that stronger flood protection infrastructure would help safeguard lives, agricultural land, and property in the region during the monsoon season and future flood events.

Nagpal directed officials to conduct daily reviews of progress and ensure that all remaining work is completed within the prescribed schedule so that local communities can benefit from a robust and reliable flood protection system before the peak flood season arrives.
