“Chepauk Crowd Louder Than a Premier League Game”: Jamie Overton as CSK Outclass MI

Chennai: The Chennai Super Kings delivered a commanding performance to seal an eight-wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians, completing a league double in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season. The win, marking the start of “Revenge Week,” was powered by clinical execution and roaring support at Chepauk.

Speaking after the match, CSK all-rounder Jamie Overton credited the electrifying home crowd for lifting the team’s spirits. “Chepauk has one of the most passionate crowds I’ve played in. It’s almost louder than a Premier League game,” he said, adding that the energy from the stands continues to inspire the players.

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin pointed to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s return to form as a crucial factor in CSK’s resurgence. He noted that Gaikwad’s composed innings reflected maturity and an ability to read conditions, especially on challenging surfaces. According to Ashwin, such performances are steadily making CSK a more dangerous side as the tournament progresses.

On the other hand, Harbhajan Singh raised concerns over Mumbai Indians’ bowling unit, stressing that wicket-taking ability remains the cornerstone of success in T20 cricket. He remarked that relying heavily on Jasprit Bumrah alone is not sustainable, and the rest of the attack must step up to support him.

Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara highlighted the impact of young talent Kartik Sharma, who played a key supporting role. Pujara described the innings as a significant breakthrough moment, especially on a pitch expected to assist spinners, where composure and responsibility were vital.

He also reflected on Suryakumar Yadav’s dismissal, calling it a case of misfortune rather than poor shot selection. Despite showing good touch, Suryakumar fell to a soft dismissal, underlining his struggle for consistency this season.

Looking ahead, Pujara expressed confidence in Chennai Super Kings’ playoff chances, noting their improved form and growing momentum. With key players finding rhythm and contributions coming from across the squad, CSK appear well-positioned to push for a top-four finish.
