Bareilly: A divisional review meeting on preparations for Census 2027 was held at the Vikas Bhawan auditorium in Bareilly under the chairmanship of Sheetal Verma, Director and Chief Principal Census Officer, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow.
The meeting reviewed preparations, training, public awareness initiatives and the census process in detail. Officials informed that the first phase, involving house-listing, was successfully completed from May 22 to June 20, 2026. The second phase, covering population enumeration, will be conducted from December 1, 2026 to January 4, 2027. During this phase, details of every individual will be recorded, with approximately 40 questions to be asked per person. A period of 35 days has been allocated for completing the exercise.
Officials were instructed to enumerate each person at the place where they are residing during the designated enumeration period. It was clarified that no documents will be sought from citizens during enumeration; only information will be collected and recorded.
The meeting further noted that the revenue village, rather than the panchayat village, will be treated as the basic unit of enumeration. Officials were directed to ensure complete and accurate coverage of jails, old-age homes, hostels, police lines and other institutional establishments. Homeless persons will be enumerated at their place of overnight stay.
Directions were issued to complete FT training by October 24, 2026. Trained enumerators will subsequently visit their assigned areas to create awareness among residents and encourage them to keep the required information ready. Appointment letters and area allocations should be issued together after training, while personnel should not be relieved from census duties except under exceptional circumstances. District magistrates will serve as the officers in charge of personnel.
The Chief Principal Census Officer also directed that parents be sensitised about the census through schools. Wide publicity should be undertaken through print, electronic and social media regarding census training, meetings, field visits and other activities.
It was decided that the District Census Cell would function as a control room under the supervision of the District Informatics Officer, with a dedicated census control room to be established in every district. Citizens can use helpline number 1855 for resolving census-related problems or complaints.
Divisional Commissioner Shambhu Kumar, Bareilly District Magistrate Avinash Singh, Badaun District Magistrate Avnish Rai, Pilibhit District Magistrate Alok Kumar, Shahjahanpur District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh, Bareilly Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Maurya, Shahjahanpur Municipal Commissioner Saumya Gururani, Bareilly Chief Development Officer Devyani, additional district magistrates and other departmental officials attended the meeting.
Among the census officials present were Joint Director Dr S.S. Sharma, Divisional In-charge (AD-IT) Abhishek Kumar Kanojia, Bareilly District In-charge Rakesh Kumar Singh, Badaun District In-charge Chandan Prajapati, Shahjahanpur District In-charge Anurag Singh and Pilibhit District In-charge Shubham Bajpai.
