Chandigarh: The unexpected election results of Haryana have shown Congress the writing on the wall in broad daylight. The results of the state in which Congress was boasting of a one-sided victory even before the announcement of elections have dashed all its hopes. BJP has got a great victory because due to the one-sided agitations of farmers and wrestlers, its leaders were also looking apprehensive about the victory, but the accurate strategy of the top leadership and the ‘change’ politics has completely dashed all the speculations. This time in Haryana, not only is BJP getting a bumper victory, but it also seems to be successful in touching the figure of 50 plus for the first time.
BJP remained firm on its old policy
Apart from this, in the politics of the state of Haryana, no party has ever been able to score a hat-trick of victory, but this time BJP seems to be breaking this record by giving a historic performance. Here is a lowdown on what is that change politics of BJP, due to which it is defeating the opposition parties in the elections held in different states of the country and the opposition parties are looking helpless.
Most of the parties in the country’s politics are family based and the reins of the party remain in the hands of that family from generation to generation. Be it the national party Congress or the big regional political parties. Although, BJP is also accused of promoting nepotism from time to time, but till now BJP has not been branded as a family based party. This is the reason why BJP says with pride that any ordinary worker of our party can also become the national president or the Prime Minister. The party has also proved it many times, where such ordinary workers were suddenly given the responsibility of Chief Minister or other big posts, whom no one knew before.
In Haryana also, BJP remained firm on its old policy and on the basis of that it achieved victory. The politics of changing the Chief Minister is considered to be the most important reason behind BJP’s hat-trick in Haryana. In March this year, BJP suddenly removed the then Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and made Nayab Singh Saini the Chief Minister. At that time, some of its own leaders as well as opposition parties had fiercely criticized this decision of BJP, but this formula worked and the party seems to be crossing the figure of 50 seats for the first time.
The changes made before the election did wonders
Understandably, keeping in mind the OBC politics going on in the country, BJP made Nayab Singh Saini, who comes from this community, the CM, while Manohar Lal Khattar came from the Punjabi community. In such a situation, removing Khattar and making Saini the CM proved to be a profitable deal for the BJP. In the exit polls, BJP seemed to be wiped out, but now the election results are telling a different story. Jats are considered to be dominant in Haryana and this time they were angry with the BJP.
After the farmers’ movement, the Jats were breaking away from the BJP due to the wrestlers’ movement and it was also believed that Congress leader Deepender Hooda could get one-sided Jat votes. After this, the BJP applied its tried and tested formula and made Nayab Singh Saini, who comes from the OBC category, the CM. The advantage of changing the CM was that the BJP reduced the anti-incumbency and also managed to get OBC votes. It seems to be getting the benefit of this in this election.
Before Haryana, the BJP has adopted the strategy of ‘change’ politics i.e. changing the Chief Minister before the elections in many states and it has got positive results to a large extent. Talking about Gujarat, the state considered to be the stronghold of the BJP. Here the BJP changed the CM twice before the elections and both times it got bumper benefits. Before the 2017 elections, Vijay Rupani was made CM by removing Anandiben Patel, and BJP won 99 seats out of 182 seats.
After this, a year before the 2022 elections, Vijay Rupani was removed and Bhupendra Singh Patel was made CM and BJP hoisted the saffron flag on a record 156 seats. In Uttarakhand, just before the 2022 elections, Trivendra Singh Rawat was removed and Tirath Singh Rawat was made CM and then he was also replaced and this responsibility was given to Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The result was that BJP captured 47 out of 70 seats. Now talking about Tripura, here just before the elections in 2023, the party removed Biplab Kumar Dev and made Manik Saha the CM. When the elections were held, the results came in favor of BJP and the party waved the flag on 32 out of 60 seats.
BJP has created a new record in the state politics by scoring a hat-trick in Haryana and has also succeeded in suppressing the voices of sporadic opposition rising within the party. The bumper victory in Haryana will also act as a balm for BJP at the national level because it had to face a lot of embarrassment due to the farmers and wrestlers’ movement, but now it will not miss the opportunity to cash in on the mandate of Haryana in the elections to be held in other states.
