Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh: Highlighting what he described as a remarkable transformation in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹955 crore in Azamgarh. He said the district, once associated with crime, migration and underdevelopment, is now emerging as a center of education, culture, industry and modern infrastructure.
Addressing a large gathering at the campus of Maharaja Suheldev State University, the Chief Minister said Azamgarh’s identity has undergone a significant shift over the past nine years. According to him, the district is now being recognized for its university, improved connectivity, industrial growth, cultural heritage and employment opportunities rather than negative stereotypes of the past.
Development Projects Gain Momentum
The projects inaugurated and launched by the Chief Minister cover key sectors including roads, healthcare, education, irrigation, drinking water supply, urban development and rural infrastructure. He described these initiatives as important milestones in the district’s comprehensive development journey.
Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the state government’s approach has focused on ensuring that welfare and development schemes reach every section of society without discrimination. He highlighted efforts to provide housing, sanitation, electricity, drinking water and social security benefits to economically weaker sections.
Educational Infrastructure Expands
The Chief Minister noted that students from Azamgarh once had to leave the district to pursue higher education due to the lack of quality institutions. The establishment of Maharaja Suheldev State University, spread across more than 60 acres, has changed that landscape by providing modern educational facilities closer to home.
He also referred to the establishment of a Sainik School and the development of the Hariharpur Music College, describing them as initiatives that will create new opportunities for young people while preserving the region’s rich cultural traditions.
Expressway and Airport Boost Connectivity
The Chief Minister credited the Purvanchal Expressway with significantly improving connectivity between Azamgarh and major cities across Uttar Pradesh and India. Better transportation links, he said, have increased the district’s attractiveness for industrial investment and business expansion.
He added that more than 250 investment proposals have been received for the region, potentially generating thousands of employment opportunities. The operational airport has further strengthened regional connectivity and economic activity.
Black Pottery Industry Finds Global Markets
One of the highlights of the Chief Minister’s address was the success of Azamgarh’s renowned black pottery craft from Nizamabad. He said that artisans associated with the traditional craft once struggled to sustain their livelihoods and often migrated in search of work.

Through the state’s One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, the industry has gained renewed visibility and market access. Today, black pottery products are reaching customers not only across India but also in international markets, including countries in Asia and the Middle East.
The Chief Minister said government support, training programs and modern toolkits provided under artisan welfare schemes have helped craftspeople improve productivity and income, enabling better educational and economic opportunities for their families.
Women and Youth at the Centre of Growth
Yogi Adityanath emphasized the role of women and youth in the district’s development. He highlighted the contribution of self-help groups and entrepreneurship programs that have encouraged financial independence among women, many of whom have emerged as successful “Lakhpati Didis.”
He also spoke about initiatives aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs through easier access to credit and business development assistance, enabling them to create employment and contribute to local economic growth.
Preserving Heritage and Honouring Historical Icons
The Chief Minister paid tribute to the legacy of Maharaja Suheldev, describing him as a symbol of courage and patriotism. He stressed the importance of preserving India’s cultural heritage and drawing inspiration from historical figures who contributed to the nation’s legacy.
‘UP Emerging as an Engine of Growth’
Concluding his address, Yogi Adityanath said India’s global standing has strengthened in recent years and that Uttar Pradesh is playing an increasingly important role in the country’s economic development. He attributed the state’s progress to improvements in law and order, infrastructure expansion and efforts to attract investment.
The event was attended by public representatives, government officials, department personnel and a large number of local residents, reflecting widespread interest in the district’s ongoing development initiatives.
