Lucknow: An inspiring and thought-provoking session titled “Life as an Officer in the Indian Army” was organized at Spence Hall in La Martiniere College on May 7, 2026, where students and NCC cadets received a first-hand understanding of the life, discipline, and responsibilities associated with serving in the armed forces.

The session was delivered by distinguished alumnus Lt. Col. Shahmir Abidi, who returned to his alma mater to interact with and inspire the next generation of students. The event was specially designed for senior school students and NCC cadets from all three wings, offering them a realistic and engaging perspective on pursuing a career in the Indian Army.

Using an effective multimedia presentation, Lt. Col. Abidi captivated the audience through impactful videos and a detailed PowerPoint presentation. He provided valuable insights into the demanding training process, the discipline required in military life, and the challenges and excitement associated with field operations.

Going beyond formal presentations, Lt. Col. Abidi shared personal experiences and anecdotes from his own journey since graduating in 2007. His stories reflected the spirit of dedication, resilience, and the core value of “Service Before Self,” while also highlighting the strong sense of camaraderie that defines the Indian Armed Forces.

One of the key highlights of the session was the detailed explanation of various entry schemes and career opportunities available to young aspirants seeking to join the armed forces. Students actively participated in the interaction and gained clarity regarding the pathways to becoming officers in the Indian Army.

The programme proved to be much more than a career guidance session. It served as a motivating lesson in leadership, patriotism, discipline, and character building. For the NCC cadets and senior students, the opportunity to learn directly from a successful alumnus made the interaction especially meaningful and inspiring.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Allen Michael Morrison, who appreciated Lt. Col. Abidi for his valuable guidance and motivating interaction. Students left the hall feeling inspired, informed, and better prepared to make thoughtful decisions about their future careers and aspirations.
