AIIMS Rae Bareli Hosts National Workshop on Endoscopic Spine Surgery, Draws 100-Plus Neurosurgeons

Rae Bareli: The Department of Neurosurgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rae Bareli, organised a national workshop on endoscopic spine surgery under the AIIMS Rae Bareli Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery Course (ARMINC), bringing together more than 100 neurosurgeons from across India.

Held under the aegis of the Neurological Surgeons’ Society of India (NSSI), the academic programme provided participants with opportunities to learn advanced surgical techniques, undergo hands-on cadaveric training and discuss the technical complexities and challenges of endoscopic spine surgery.

The workshop was attended by several prominent neurosurgeons, including Prof. Raj Kumar and Prof. Kulwant Singh from Banaras Hindu University, and Prof. Deepak Singh, Prof. Prakash Nair and Prof. Shah Waliullah from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS).

Faculty members and neurosurgeons from Gurugram, Aligarh Muslim University, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram and other parts of the country also participated.

The scientific programme featured expert lectures, surgical video demonstrations, interactive discussions and hands-on cadaveric training. The sessions enabled participants to gain a better understanding of surgical anatomy, refine their technical skills and acquire practical experience in minimally invasive procedures.

Prof. Amita Jain, Executive Director of AIIMS Rae Bareli, congratulated the organising team and appreciated the collaborative efforts of the departments of Neurosurgery, Anatomy and Physiology in making the initiative successful.

She emphasised the importance of interdepartmental cooperation, practical training and continuing medical education (CME) in enhancing surgical expertise and improving patient care.

Dr Suyash Singh, organising secretary of the workshop, said ARMINC was designed as an academic initiative to promote education, practical training and the exchange of knowledge in minimally invasive neurosurgery.

The successful organisation of the workshop reflects AIIMS Rae Bareli’s commitment to academic excellence, medical innovation and the development of specialised surgical skills among healthcare professionals.

Endoscopic spine surgery is increasingly transforming the treatment of spinal disorders. The technique uses small incisions to perform complex procedures while minimising damage to surrounding tissues. For appropriately selected patients, it can offer potential benefits such as reduced postoperative pain, smaller scars, shorter hospital stays and a quicker return to routine activities.

With demand for minimally invasive surgical care growing, structured training and practical experience are essential to ensure that these advanced techniques are adopted safely and effectively.

Through initiatives such as ARMINC, the Department of Neurosurgery at AIIMS Rae Bareli is working to expand training opportunities and strengthen the adoption of advanced endoscopic spine surgery techniques among neurosurgeons.
