Lucknow Farmers Market Celebrates Children’s Day with Cancer Awareness, Healthy Living and Young Entrepreneurs

Lucknow: The Lucknow Farmers Market (LFM) organised its ‘Take a Green Vow Festive and Children’s Day Edition 2026’ at the historic Habibullah Estate in Hazratganj on Sunday, November 1, bringing together families, children, students, entrepreneurs and environmental enthusiasts for a day dedicated to health, sustainability, creativity and community engagement.

Held under the theme ‘Celebrate, Gift Mindfully and Embrace Sustainable Living’, the event featured discussions on cancer awareness, children’s health, nutrition, music, entrepreneurship and environmental conservation.

One of the key highlights was a special discussion titled ‘Cancer: Stories of Life, Love and Courage’, featuring renowned authors Kamlesh Tripathi and Pranita Lele. Both shared deeply personal experiences and discussed the emotional challenges faced by cancer patients, their families and caregivers.

Pranita Lele spoke about her husband Vikram’s battle with cancer, which inspired her book The Man Who Refused to Bow. Kamlesh Tripathi shared his experience of losing his son Shravan after his 14-year-long battle with cancer. Following this personal loss, he began documenting the journeys of other people affected by the disease. His books Gloom Behind the Smile and Onco Suresh capture stories of struggle, resilience and courage.

The discussion explored grief, caregiving, emotional strength, hope and the human relationships affected by cancer, bringing attention to the experiences beyond the medical aspects of the disease.

Children’s health and nutrition also received special attention. Stuti Arora delivered a session on homeopathy and children’s health, highlighting aspects of childcare and overall well-being.

The event also featured ‘Mamma’s Tiffin Tales – The Healthy Tiffin Challenge’, encouraging children and parents to prepare nutritious, creative and appealing meals together. The competition was judged by chefs Shilpi Saxena and Manjulika Asthana. Deepa Pandey secured first place, Anvi Agrawal won second prize, while Shivangi Singh took third place.

The market also served as a practical learning platform for aspiring entrepreneurs. MBA students from Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU) and the Techno Institute of Higher Studies visited the event to understand business operations, product development, marketing, customer engagement and sales through direct interaction with entrepreneurs.

The visit also offered students opportunities to explore practical business internships and gain exposure to real-world entrepreneurship.

Adding to the Children’s Day celebrations, 11-year-old Daksh from Seth M.R. Jaipuria School showcased his candle-making venture, demonstrating how creativity and entrepreneurial thinking can develop at a young age.

Another highlight was a musical performance by Arjun Gupta, a young musician on the autism spectrum, whose participation showcased the importance of inclusion and providing equal opportunities for children with diverse abilities.

Visitors also explored fresh farm produce, natural and sustainable products, handmade goods and offerings from women entrepreneurs, farmers, artisans and emerging startups. Live music, food and the garden setting added to the community atmosphere.

The event concluded with the recognition of three young environmental champions – Ayesha Abu Bakr, Sharav Sahay and Ariz Siddiqui – for their efforts towards environmental conservation. Sharav has contributed to initiatives such as river clean-ups and reducing plastic use, while Ariz promotes eco-friendly habits through his everyday practices. The organisers also recognised Ayesha for her environmental initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Lucknow Farmers Market founder Jyotsna Kaur Habibullah said children were not merely future leaders but also agents of change in the present.

She expressed satisfaction over the participation of families in discussions on cancer, children’s health and nutrition, as well as the entrepreneurial, creative and environmental initiatives showcased by young participants.

She also highlighted the participation of MBA students from SRMU and Techno Institute, saying the market aimed to go beyond being a shopping destination and develop into a platform for learning, inclusion, awareness, livelihoods and community participation.

Established in 2015, Lucknow Farmers Market has been providing a platform for farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs, women-led businesses and sustainable product ventures. Through its monthly markets and community initiatives, it promotes local livelihoods, responsible consumption, environmental conservation, inclusive entrepreneurship and practical learning.
