Lucknow: A five-day, 40-hour state-level mediation training programme for 68 selected advocate mediators from various district courts of Uttar Pradesh commenced at the Judicial Training and Research Institute (JTRI), Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, on Monday.

Organised by the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (UPSLSA), the programme will run from November 2 to 6, 2026, under the guidance of Justice Arun Bhansali, Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court and Patron-in-Chief of UPSLSA, and Justice Arindam Sinha, Senior Judge of the Allahabad High Court and Executive Chairman of the authority.

The programme is being conducted in accordance with the structured curriculum prescribed by the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court of India.

The inaugural session was attended by Dr (Mrs) Manu Kalia, Member Secretary of UPSLSA, and Rekha Agnihotri, Director of JTRI, Lucknow.

The training aims to equip advocate mediators with essential legal knowledge and practical skills in mediation, conciliation and amicable dispute resolution. Special emphasis is being placed on constructive communication, identifying common interests and helping disputing parties reach mutually acceptable and fair settlements.

The sessions will familiarise participants with the technical aspects and practical approaches of mediation, strengthening the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism in Uttar Pradesh and making justice more accessible, affordable and time-efficient.

During the inaugural session, the book ‘Mediation Advocacy’ (Madhyasthata Vakalat), authored by senior MCPC master trainer and advocate Neeraj Upadhyay and advocate-mediator Rohit Upadhyay, was formally released.

The book highlights the importance of creative thinking, sensitivity and cooperation in resolving disputes through mediation.

Through such institutional training initiatives, the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority aims to strengthen alternative dispute resolution and promote faster, accessible and cost-effective justice for citizens.
