Mumbai: Chelsea forward Joao Pedro has praised teammate Cole Palmer for his exceptional all-round ability, describing him as a complete player capable of scoring goals, creating chances and delivering from free kicks. In an interview shared by JioStar, Pedro also discussed Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso’s approach, the team’s attacking philosophy and the importance of midfielder Moises Caicedo.
With Everton and Chelsea set to face each other on October 17, both sides will be looking to strengthen their positions in the Premier League standings. Pedro has emerged as a key figure in Chelsea’s attack, leading the club’s scoring charts with five goals.
Speaking about Palmer’s qualities, Pedro said the England international’s versatility makes him stand out.
“Cole Palmer is a beast, he can score, he can pass. He can score from free kicks. He can do everything. He’s a complete player and that’s what makes him special,” Pedro said, crediting Palmer for his impressive performances against Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion.
Pedro also expressed confidence in Alonso’s leadership, highlighting the manager’s understanding of players and his determination to win.
“Our gaffer Xabi Alonso is very open with us because he used to play football so, he understands our mind,” Pedro said. He added that Alonso’s passion and desire to win every game matched the players’ ambitions.
Explaining his role alongside Palmer and Morgan Rogers in Chelsea’s attacking set-up, Pedro said his focus is on making the right passes and runs to create scoring opportunities. He looks to find Palmer at his feet, while attempting to release Rogers into space and exploit one-on-one situations.
Pedro believes Chelsea’s attacking strength comes from contributions across the squad rather than depending on a single player. He said Alonso consistently reminds the team to remain focused and connected to the game, while the front three work to create chances. Goals from midfielders and defenders, particularly from set pieces, further increase the team’s attacking threat.
The Brazilian forward also reserved special praise for Caicedo, calling the midfielder the best in his position in the world.
“Moises, for me, he’s the best in his position in the world. He’s a machine,” Pedro said, pointing to Caicedo’s ability to cover ground, win possession and protect the defence. According to Pedro, the midfielder’s defensive work allows his teammates greater freedom to push forward.
