AIIMS Raebareli Restores Oral Feeding in 16-Year-Old After Acid Injury

Raebareli: Doctors at the General Surgery Department of AIIMS Raebareli have successfully treated a 16-year-old boy who developed severe narrowing of the stomach passage after accidentally ingesting acid, enabling him to resume eating normally through his mouth after nearly four months.

The teenager, a resident of Murar Mau in Unchahar, Raebareli, had suffered serious injury to the lower part of his stomach after consuming acid. The resulting narrowing made it extremely difficult for food to pass through the stomach. His condition became so severe that he could no longer eat orally and had to receive nutrition through a tube placed directly into the small intestine.

On July 27, 2026, Unit-1 of the General Surgery Department performed a complex laparoscopic procedure to create a new passage between the stomach and small intestine, allowing food to pass normally. Following the surgery, the teenager has been able to eat by mouth without significant difficulty. His health has continued to improve and he is also gaining weight appropriately.

AIIMS Raebareli Director Dr Amrita Jain congratulated the surgical team led by Dr Neeraj Kumar Srivastava. She appreciated the contributions of Dr Pranabh Kushwaha, Dr Amritanshu Saurabh, Dr Shirish Kumar, Senior Resident Dr Yogesh and Junior Resident Dr Himanshu.

The anaesthesia team comprising Dr Girish, Senior Resident Dr Anju and Junior Resident Dr Devi, along with Nursing Officers Supriya and Priya, also played an important role in the procedure.

Dr Jain said the General Surgery Department remains committed to using advanced laparoscopic techniques for complex procedures and providing modern surgical care closer to patients’ homes.
