Lucknow: The Lalit Kala Akademi, Regional Centre, Lucknow, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, organised a seven-day “Kabad Se Kaushal” (Scrap Sculpture) workshop under the “Seva Hi Sanskriti” campaign. The workshop was held from September 17 to 23, 2026.
The concluding ceremony featured the inauguration of an exhibition showcasing sculptures created during the workshop. K. Swarup Mandal, Director-in-Charge, Regional Science Centre, Lucknow; Girish Pandey, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow; and Dr Devendra Tripathi, Regional Secretary, Lalit Kala Akademi, jointly inaugurated the exhibition by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
The workshop aimed to transform discarded metal and scrap materials into innovative works of art while promoting environmental awareness and exploring new dimensions of sculpture.
Renowned artists Udayraj Maurya, Shamsher and Tej Pratap participated in the workshop. Using discarded iron pieces and other scrap materials, the artists created distinctive sculptures through their craftsmanship, imagination and creativity.
The exhibition attracted guests, art enthusiasts, students and members of the public, who appreciated the artworks and the concept behind the initiative.
Swarup Mandal said converting waste and scrap into artistic creations demonstrated the artists’ talent while also conveying a strong message about cleanliness and environmental conservation.
The workshop brought together art, creativity and environmental consciousness. Participating artists and collaborators were felicitated at the concluding ceremony. Artists, officers and employees of the centre were also present.
