Mumbai: Singer Shreya Ghoshal is returning to a phrase that has been closely associated with one of the defining moments of her early career. She is set to release a new song titled Bairi Piya on September 25, more than two decades after the phrase became synonymous with her breakthrough in Hindi cinema.
The new composition is being presented as an original musical project rather than a remake or recreation of the Devdas song. Shreya has described the track as deeply personal, connecting her early experiences as a young singer with the artist she has evolved into over the years.
Shreya was only 16 when she recorded Bairi Piya for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 film Devdas. The song, picturised on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s character Parvati, became one of the memorable tracks from the film’s acclaimed soundtrack and marked a major step in Shreya’s playback career.
She was discovered by Bhansali following her appearance on the television singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma. For Devdas, she recorded five songs, including Dola Re Dola and Silsila Ye Chahat Ka.
