Cancer Specialists Convene at AIIMS Rae Bareli for Two-Day Oncopathology Seminar

Rae Bareli: A two-day oncopathology seminar was organised at AIIMS Rae Bareli on September 11 and 12 to promote collaborative approaches to cancer diagnosis and management. The programme was organised by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine under the guidance of Executive Director Dr Amita Jain.

Faculty members from AIIMS Rae Bareli, led by Dr Neeraj Kumari, and the Tata Memorial Centre Travelling School of Oncopathology (TTSOP), led by Dr Sumeet Gujral, conducted a tumour board and held detailed discussions on complex cancer cases.

Experts from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, including Dr Sumeet Gujral, Dr Shubhada Kane, Dr Praveen Mahajan and Dr Ayushi Sahya, participated in the programme. Specialists from SGPGI Lucknow, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute, KGMU Lucknow and Max Hospital Lucknow also shared their expertise on cancer diagnosis and treatment.

AIIMS Rae Bareli faculty and specialists presented several cancer cases before the tumour board for multidisciplinary discussion. Pathologists from leading institutions including PGIMER Chandigarh, SGPGI Lucknow, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Delhi, KGMU and RML Lucknow, along with medical colleges from across the country, also participated and discussed challenging cases.

A poster competition on cancer-related topics was organised as part of the seminar. An AIIMS Rae Bareli pathology resident won the first prize, while residents from IMS-BHU secured the second and third prizes.

The programme also included hands-on training for laboratory technicians. Technical faculty from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, Salim Pathuthara and Fatima, along with AIIMS Rae Bareli technicians, conducted sessions on staining techniques in haematology, histopathology and cytopathology, as well as laboratory quality control practices.
