Lucknow: The Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute (KSSSCI), Lucknow, has inaugurated an advanced Liquid-Based Cytology (LBC) facility in its Department of Pathology to strengthen the early and timely detection of cervical cancer.
KSSSCI Director Prof. MLB Bhatt inaugurated the facility and highlighted the advantages of LBC over conventional Pap smear testing. He said the advanced technique provides clearer and more reliable results while reducing the chances of sample deterioration, thereby improving the quality of cervical cancer screening.
A workshop on LBC technology was also organised for doctors and technical staff from the Departments of Gynecological Oncology and Pathology. The workshop was conducted under the expert guidance of Prof. R.N. Rao of SGPGI, Lucknow, who attended the programme as the chief guest.
Dr Deepti Mishra, Head of the Department of Pathology at KSSSCI, said LBC enables the collection of better-quality samples and facilitates faster reporting, supporting timely diagnosis and treatment. She added that HPV testing can also be carried out from the same sample, whenever required.
The introduction of the LBC facility is expected to strengthen cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services at the institute, while improving access to modern testing technology for patients. The workshop also aimed to familiarise medical and technical teams with the technology and its application in routine clinical practice.
