Kanwar Yatra: Bareilly Administration Hands Out Safety Jackets to Civil Defence Volunteers

BAREILLY: With the Kanwar Yatra underway during Shravan month, the district administration held an event at the Collectorate auditorium today to equip civil defence volunteers with high-visibility yellow safety jackets ahead of the pilgrimage season.

Additional District Magistrate (City) Avinash Tripathi distributed the jackets to civil defence volunteers posted at municipal boards and municipal councils in the Aonla, Nawabganj, Baheri and Meerganj tehsils.

Deputy Controller of Civil Defence Rakesh Kumar Mishra used the occasion to update officials on the department’s work, noting that Bareilly is the first district in Uttar Pradesh to extend civil defence coverage down to the tehsil level — deploying volunteers who actually live in the wards of the municipal boards and councils they serve.

“Civil defence, at its core, is citizens protecting citizens,” said ADM Tripathi, adding that civil defence volunteers play a role alongside the army and police in keeping people safe, whether during emergencies or natural disasters. He urged the newly appointed volunteers at the tehsil level to take their civil defence responsibilities seriously alongside their regular work, telling them that service to the nation is the highest duty there is.

Chief Warden Ranjeet Kumar Vashishtha told the new volunteers they were no longer just ordinary citizens but “special citizens” now, and appealed to them to carry out their responsibilities with complete sincerity.

Also present at the event were Senior Assistant Deputy Controller of Civil Defence Pankaj Kudesia, Pramod Kumar Dagar, Divisional Wardens Shivlesh Chandra Pandey, Sanjay Pathak and Dinesh Kumar Singh, Deputy Divisional Warden Kanwaljeet Singh, along with other office staff.
